NETWORK ADMISSION CONTROL
Tympani is one of a few security firms with experience implementing Network Admission Control (NAC). NAC is a new industry initiative to increase network intelligence and allow the network to automatic identify, prevent, and adapt to network security threats. NAC uses network infrastructure to enforce security policy and compliance of all devices requesting network access. It will limit the damage from viruses and worms and provide network access to endpoint devices such as PCs, PDAs, and servers that are verified to be fully compliant with established security policy. NAC can also identify noncompliant devices and deny them access, place them in a quarantined area for remediation, or give them restricted access outside the firewall to computing resources. The speed at which the latest viruses and worms have attacked mean that networks are now hit before security updates can be written, distributed, or even applied to vulnerable systems. Network security systems must react instantly to stop the disruption of business. The foundation for a self-defending network is integrated security that is native to all aspects of an organization. Every device in the network, from servers and desktops, through the LAN, and across the WAN, needs to identify threats, react appropriately to the severity level, isolate infected systems, and reconfigure network resources in response to an attack. Enforcement of network security, even on noncompliant endpoint devices before they access network resources, will result in lower costs, increased resilience, and higher productivity.
